Wow. There’s a real paradigm shift going on in gaming. Once reserved for “amateurs” seeking funds to publish their homebrew games, Kickstarter is now being used by well-respected industry vets such as Mega Man‘s Keiji Inafune and Earthworm Jim‘s Doug Tennapel to fund professional quality projects.
Now the director of such amazing Square titles such as Final Fantasy XII, Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics is involved in an incredible-looking Kickstarter project called Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians.
From the project description…
Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is the spiritual successor in a storied line of epic tactical RPGs designed by Yasumi Matsuno. Playdek is excited to be partnering with one of the most legendary game designers, as well as you the fans, to bring out a refreshing, immersive new take on the tactics genre.
In the hands of the veteran tactical RPG master himself, Unsung Story will re-imaginea classic game genre, as Yasumi Matsuno weaves together one of the complex and rich game worlds that he is known for, with inspiring class based tactics game play.
You had me at “Matsuno.” Final Fantasy XII is my all-time favorite entry in the series, Vagrant Story was an underrated — and often overlooked — gem, and Final Fantasy Tactics is absolutely legendary (PSST – the iOS version is pretty damn sweet, too!)
While there currently aren’t any screenshots of the game, the concept art looks gorgeous…
We’re already backers. How about you?
