Something like two decades before Disney's Aladdin, Toei produced Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, which occasionally aired on American television in an English dubbing. It was released on VHS, and I have myself a copy. It resembled the original story of Aladdin much more closely, in that there was a genie in a lamp and another in a magic ring.
Also have to take note that a lot of the artist that worked on Disney's Original Animated Aladdin had worked on The Thief and the Cobbler, which is not based on the Aladdin story but set in a similar setting (with a similar plot), and a lot of the visual ideas were reused when they moved over to work for Disney, thinking that TC was never going to be finished. But it was rushed to completion and people thought IT was coping Disney. SMH But in the end, TC is a much more superior animated film! It's INSANLY well made
